The 5 Principles of Usui Reiki: How They Help Transform My Life

The 5 Principles of Usui Reiki And How They Help Transform My Life

As a Level 3 Usui Reiki Master, Reiki is an integral part of my life. It not only deepens my understanding of energy healing but also profoundly transforms the way I approach life itself. Reiki brings me more understanding, compassion, and gratitude and connects me with my intuition and internal guidance., changing my perspective and allowing me to live with greater peace and purpose as I navigate my own challenges—we all have our stuff! These five principles, if practiced, can be a starting point at any time for you to recenter and refocus your energy and connect back to your body instead of your head.

1. Just for today, I will not be angry.

Anger can be a be a big part of my life, leaving me feeling disconnected and frustrated. I have done a lot of work around this emotion, but still “in progress” When I started practicing Reiki, I learned how to let go of that anger more quickly. I began to notice what triggers it, feel it in my body, and find ways to get it out of my head. Breathwork works wonders for this. Anger just drains my energy and clouds my perspective. The first principle, "Just for today, I will not be angry," has taught me the power of embracing inner peace. By choosing to release anger, I’ve found a sense of calm and clarity that has really improved my relationships and overall well-being. Sometimes, it means letting go of the things—and even people or circumstances—that we're angry about and setting boundaries to protect our peace.

2. Just for today, I will not worry.

Worry is another constant companion in my life, keeping me stuck in cycles of anxiety and doubt. Reiki teaches me the value of living in the present moment. The second principle, "Just for today, I will not worry," helps me trust in the natural flow of life. By focusing on the here and now, I find that many of my fears are unfounded and simply made-up stories. I want to let go of worry and experience life with greater ease and confidence. This shift not only reduces my anxiety but also brings me a deeper sense of trust in the universe and in myself.

3. Just for today, I will be grateful.

Gratitude is one of the most transformative aspects of my Reiki journey. The third principle, "Just for today, I will be grateful," reshapes my outlook on life. By making a conscious effort to practice gratitude daily, I begin to see the beauty and abundance in every moment. Let’s be real—it’s not all peachy and good all the time, but gratitude brings you back home to your highest vibration. I do this mainly in teh morning and write 3-5 things that I am grateful for. This shift in perspective brings me more joy and contentment throughout my day. Gratitude is one of the foundations of my spiritual practice, opening my heart to the world and deepening my compassion for others, and also for myself. Who can relate to being their own worst critic?

4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Integrity and honesty have always mattered in my work, but Reiki has given me a fresh perspective on these qualities. The fourth principle, "Just for today, I will do my work honestly," helps me stay true to myself in everything I do. Whether I'm running my dance studio, giving a Reiki session, coaching, working out (because fitness keeps me grounded and content), or just handling everyday tasks, I aim to do it all with sincerity and dedication.

Does it happen every day? UMMM, no—but this principle gives me a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that I'm living in line with my values and positively impacting the world around me.

5. Just for today, I will be kind

Kindness is something we all have within us, but the stress of daily life can throw us off course. When we're frustrated and stressed, it’s easy to let those feelings seep out, making us come across as snappy or rude. It’s a tough spot to be in—you know you're a good person, but when something has you all wound up, it’s hard not to snap at the first person who triggers you.

The fifth principle “Just for today, I will be kind.” helps get me back on track and connected to my higher self. Messing up is inevitable, but if you slip up, forgive yourself and try again. You can restart as many times as you need until noticing and reflecting becomes your go-to, instead of lashing out.

How Reiki Changes My Life

Reiki is like a guiding light for me, helping me find more understanding, compassion, and gratitude in my life. The five principles of Usui Reiki are the backbone of my daily practice, giving me the tools to handle life’s ups and downs with grace and resilience as well as connecting me to my true feminine energy. As a Level 3 Reiki Master, I’m all about sharing these principles with others, hoping they can feel the same deep transformation that Reiki has brought into my life.

With Gratitude,

Jess
